A cataract is a cloudiness that develops within the lens of the eye, leading to blurred vision as it worsens.
Causes: While often age-related, cataracts can also form due to factors like previous steroid use, trauma, prior eye surgeries, or intraocular inflammation.
Surgical Procedure:
Technique: Cataract surgery is performed through micro-incision phacoemulsification.
Process: A 2.4mm micro-incision is made, through which the cataract is broken down using ultrasound and then aspirated out of the eye.
Lens Implant: After removing the cataract, a lens implant is inserted through the incision. The power of the lens is carefully calculated for each individual to ensure optimal vision post-surgery.
